Guest Chef Night at FareStart with Manolin’s chef

We went back to Guest Chef Night at FareStart!

FareStart, a job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals, is a prominent organization in the city and Guest Chef Night at FareStart is a great experience. Every Thursday chef comes and prepares a 3 course-meal with the help of the FareStart students.  It is served in a very nice atmosphere and it is only $30 per person. During the evening, students graduating that week are introduced and are given an ovation.

That Thursday the guest chef was Alex Barkley from Manolin, a restaurant we love.

Because I like the mission and values that FareStart advocates I decided to bring along my teenage daughter there and my friends did the same with theirs.

I am not a vegetarian but that time I opted for the vegetarian option (there is always one and you can look at the menu online before you make a reservation). I chose it because I am not a big fan of the Beef Tartare (raw ground beef) and the Pork Belly that were offered on the regular menu. But the others really liked both dishes even the two teenage girls.

First Course:
Steak tartare, tomato, szechuan peppercorn, sourdough cracker
Veg. Sliced tomato, Szechuan peppercorn, red butter lettuce, sourdough cracker

Entree:
Pork Belly, smoked watermelon, Fugawa onion, kohlrabi,
Veg. Summer zuchini, hazelnuts, basil, pecorino

Dessert:
Roasted nectarine with mascarpone and sweet potato

It was flavorful!

Eden Hill Has a Creative Chef!

We have only been to Eden Hill once but we cannot wait to go back. This restaurant is perfect for food lovers!

The space is tight but we had the chance to be seated at a small table right by the window. Otherwise tables are really close to one another.

But what is really worth the visit is the food! The chef is so talented and creative! All dishes were inventive, beautiful and delicious.

For me this is one of the best restaurants in Seattle.

They offer a tasting chef menu, but we were not that hungry that night. We chose to order 4 plates to share. We were more than happy with everything.

– Purple asparagus, egg yolk and cherry jam, crispy sunchoke, smoked and whipped Wagyu Beef fat
– Washington halibut Fava Beean and Ramp Panna cotta, charred kale blossom, lemon air
– Albacore tuna crudo, Yuzu Koshu and ginger Bubbles, kumquat, pickled mushrooms, wild onion flowers
– Veal sweetbread Tostada, house corn tortilla, radish, aerated creme fraiche, lime dew, habanero, ras el hanout
– Ruby Grapefruit curd, candied pistachio, rhubarb and verjus sorbet, olive oil cake.

Everything was amazing and beautifully presented. We need to go back for the Chef Menu.

Great State Burger New Burgers in town

A new addition to the Seattle’s Fast Food Burgers scene!

The menu is very short: Burgers, Fries, and Milkshakes.

The burger (single patty) tasted great.  I liked the kind of brioche bun and the grass fed beef meat. Not spectacular, but very good.

It looks like they wanted to do something like Shake Shack in NYC. I need to go back to New York and check again if Great State Burger is close or not to the famous New York Burgers! 😉
