Outdoor lunch at Volunteer Park Cafe

I like this casual place at the corner of two quiet residential streets in the north part of Capitol Hill. I usually go there when I’m around the Seattle Asian Art Museum or the Conservatory House in Volunteer Park. I like that you can sit outside and even though it’s along the street, it remains quiet and car noises will not disturb you.

I had Lunch there with a friend, she was coming from Green Lake and I was downtown, it was the perfect location with easy parking.

Don’t expect too many options and sophisticated menu, it’s more homestyle food but the salads we had were tasty and fresh.

– Warm Hazelnut, Crusted Chèvre, Pears, organic greens, and pomegranate vinaigrette
– Chicken-Apple Salad: Chicken salad, organic greens, creamy tarragon yogurt dressing and walnuts

The London Plane again

I already talked about The London Plane when they just opened last year.

I like these kind of places where you can, in one stop, have lunch, pick up my favorite Jam, buy a present for a friend, or grab some pastries or even flowers. You can also come in for a coffee in the morning.

A few days ago I had a nice lunch there with my parents.

In a light and warm space, we enjoyed tasty dips and salads:

– 3 dips: Beet Hummus with harissa oil – Pecan, Nettle and Feta Pesto  – Split Fava Bean Dal, mint and coconut

– Mix of 3 salads: : Brassica raab, Celeriac, lentils, turmeric, ginger –  Roasted baby carrots, spring onions, fennel, bulgur, preserved lemon  – Chick peas with olives, currants, cauliflower and pine nuts

We also appreciated an attentive service. In a few words, we had a great time.

Don’t forget to go upstairs and have a look through the window at the baker kneading the bread.

Tip: We made a reservation on Opentable to be sure to have a table.

Almost Summer at Marination Makai

If you are around Alki Beach on a sunny or at least clear day, I have a suggestion for you. Marination Makai with Hawaiian specialities, umbrellas, deck, and an awesome view of the Seattle skyline is the perfect spot.

And for a little adventure, if you come from Seattle Downtown, take the Water Taxi. Marination is just in front of you at the Water Taxi Dock.
