Last year the Smith Tower celebrated its 100th anniversary. The Smith Tower opened on July 4, 1914 and at that time it was with its 42 stories the tallest building outside New York City.

Orient Yourself Downtown
Do you know this way to remember the order of the streets downtown?The names of the 12 downtown streets are paired by their first letters. From South to North, they are:
Jefferson, James, Cherry, Columbia, Marion, Madison, Spring, Seneca, University, Union, Pike and Pine.
“Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest”. What does it mean? Nothing! But if you memorize this weird sentence, next time you walk or drive downtown, you’ll be able to orient yourself better.
